Faith Temple Food Giveaway COVID 19 Corona Virus
Updated 3/27/2020 10:00AM
The Faith Temple Food Giveaway is closely monitoring the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID 19) and is continuing to offer food resources to individuals and families living in hunger in South Dakota.
Due to the recent updates regarding social distancing, the first 700 guests over the age of 18 will receive a box of pre-packaged food items in a "drive-thru" style giveaway. The giveaway will begin at 4pm. Guests will stay in their vehicles and will follow a pre-determined route through the fairgrounds. Access to the fairgrounds WILL ONLY be available via the north entrance off of Madison St. We are requesting that able-bodied volunteers who can carry at least 20 lbs are able to attend. This style of giveaway will be the standard procedure of operation until we are able to return to a client-choice based distribution system.
We will continue to work with government agencies and partners to determine what actions may need to be taken in the future, as we learn more about the coronavirus.
Right now, the Faith Temple Food Giveaway encourages people who are living in hunger and food insecurity to continue to attend the Friday food giveaways.
We are asking that volunteers and guests who have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 (coronavirus symptoms) to stay at home. And as always, to prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses, people who have symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat with a fever, or jaundice (food borne illness symptoms) to stay at home.
We will update the public if future giveaways are impacted by the coronavirus.
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), we are seeing a substantial increase in the amount of people who are, and will be in need of food, and in some cases doubling our normal amount. Many people who are in need have never needed assistance in the past. The Faith Temple Food Giveaway is planning on continuing and expanding its efforts to reach people who are hungry in Sioux Falls.
In addition to paying food fees, we are experiencing the reality that we require more equipment and supplies to continue to provide food during this pandemic, to keep our volunteers and guests safe, and to operate at a larger scale.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we together can end hunger in South Dakota.
